Popular with artists, writers, and crafters of all manner, Cape Cod embraces the entrepreneurial spirit. You’ll find organic farmers, natural soap makers, herbalists, brewers, wine makers, bread bakers, chocolatiers, jewelry makers, and folks who do all sorts of things with cranberries. Many of these creative and enterprising people have achieved success locally and regionally with their products, and in some cases, nationally and internationally. If you want to sample the real Cape Cod, seek out products that are handmade here. Some of our favorites include:

Cape Cod Potato Chips, (508) 775-3588: Made in Hyannis, but famous world-wide, you can tour the Cape Cod Potato Chip factory, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Tours end in the gift shop where you can purchase any of their products and take home a free sample.

Cape Cod Beer, (508) 790-4200: Passionate home brewers and beer lovers everywhere are drawn to this local brewery for tours and tastings, and their ever-growing lineup of fun events. Open Monday through Friday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday, 11 – 4. Tours offered Saturdays at 11:00 am with ticket.

Cape Cod Beach Chair, 800-809-1750: Founded in 2002 by a native Cape Codder on a quest to create the ultimate beach chair, you’ll find these iconic beach chairs all over Cape Cod and around the world. The product line now includes an array of beach apparel, beach gear, and beach games. Call ahead for seasonal hours.

Nauset Lantern Shop, (508) 255-1009: Celebrating 60 years of crafting handmade lanterns on Cape Cod, the Nauset Lantern Shop specializes in handcrafted nautical lanterns, onion lanterns, and more. You can visit their shop and showroom in Orleans, located just a 5 minute drive from the Inn. Open Monday through Saturday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Summer House Natural Soaps, (508) 827-4145: What started as a small home business in the kitchen of the founder has now grown in scale, but the soaps, lotions, and balms are still made by hand in small batches. Visit their retail outlet Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday, 10 – 4.

Barnstable Bat Company, (508) 362-8046: Makers of the bat used by the Cape Cod Baseball League as well as some major league teams, the Barnstable Bat Company showroom is open Monday through Friday and some weekends in summer. Call ahead for hours.

Cape Cod Lavender Farm, (508) 432-8397: Follow the signs from Route 124 in Harwich to a little oasis down a long windy dirt drive for an olfactory adventure you won’t soon forget. Here on this family-run lavender farm, are handmade soaps, oils, lotions and candles, all scented with lavender grown on the premises.
