If you think Labor Day weekend signals the end of summer fun on Cape Cod, think again! The annual Eastham Windmill Weekend returns September 6-9, 2019, promising three jam-packed days of food, music and frivolity, all taking place in the heart of Eastham, not far from the lovely grounds of the Whalewalk Inn and Spa. And the best part is that all of the events are free to the public, with the exception of food and merchandise.
A chicken and fish fry at the Elks Lodge pavilion kicks off the event on Friday night, followed by a musical performance and talent show. Be prepared to be entertained by some fabulous local talent. Typically 7-10 acts take the stage to sing, dance, amuse and dazzle the audience with their performances.
Saturday dawns bright and early with a scavenger hunt commencing at First Encounter Beach. Follow the clues for an intriguing adventure around town. At 10:00 AM the green will be teeming with more than 70 vendors and crafters vying for your attention and tempting your taste buds. Throughout the day kids will be entertained by face painters, balloon animals and children’s games. Try you luck at the dunk tank set up in front of the gazebo, one of the many fund-raising activities that contribute to scholarships for graduating seniors headed for college next year.
Be sure to make time for the antique car show held back at the Elks Lodge from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Dozens of gleaming vintage automobiles are on display with their proud owners. Head back to First Encounter Beach in time for the sand art contest that begins at noon; winners will be announced at 3:00 PM. Throughout the day, you’ll be treated to the sounds of various musical performers, including everything from beat box to soul.
The fun continues on Sunday with a road race, pancake breakfast, more musical performances and the highlight of the weekend, the Windmill Weekend parade. Check the calendar of events for a complete listing of all activities planned.
This community-centered event grows larger every year with the help of a dedicated contingent of volunteers and generous donations from local businesses. Join the festivities this year and book your stay at the Whale Walk Inn and Spa. You’ll be glad you did.
