The Ice Cream Café first opened its doors in 1993. Fast-forward 25 years, and this year-round Orleans shop has grown significantly, dishing up nearly 40 different flavors during the summer months. All are made in small batches, on site, with the best possible high-fat milk and cream, ensuring rich and delicious ice cream. The luscious array includes the standards, plus flavors such as salty caramel, chocolate fudge brownie, ginger, avocado—even Indian pudding. Ice Cream Café also makes more than 20 flavors of frozen yogurt, including Nutella and a super-refreshing pina colada; non-dairy scooped ice cream and slightly tart sorbets; and seven yummy vegan options, including crunchy granola and peanut butter. Ice cream cakes in three sizes are also available.

Create your own ice cream delight is the fun idea behind the Local Scoop. Also located in Orleans, it has a frozen dessert bar so visitors can make their own sundaes—starting with soft-serve, handmade ice cream, or frozen yogurt—and adding all kinds of tasty mix-ins and toppings, from nuts and fruits to candies and cereals. Local Scoop has organic ice cream, gluten-free and sugar-free options, and vegan varieties as well. The store also makes dessert crepes you can fill with ice cream and delightful Brownie Baked Alaska. If you visit the Orleans farmers market on Saturday mornings, keep an eye out for the Local Scoop Pop Mobile or Pop Cycle.

Ever since we were introduced to Cherry Garcia, we—and ice cream lovers everywhere—have flocked to Ben & Jerry’s. The closest one to the Inn is located in North Eastham, and has introduced some enticing new flavors, such as chocolate shake it (a riff on a malted milk shake) and Gimme S’more (an ice cream version of the campsite fave). They have also introduced dairyless options that are 100% vegan and come in tempting flavors such as Cinnamon Buns, Peanut Butter Half-Baked, and the ever-great Cherry Garcia. Bring your own plastic spoon and B&J will give you a 10% discount on your cup of ice cream and a special key fob that’s good for a discount every time you visit!
