Rum, Gin Star At South Hollow Spirits In Truro MA

Prohibition put a stop to distilleries across the country in the 1920’s. It took until the 21st Century to bring the business back to Cape Cod, and it’s all thanks to South Hollow Spirits.

South Hollow Spirits is led by the team behind Truro Vineyards (more about them in our next blog). They produce small-batch spirits, incorporating locally-sourced ingredients for the company’s signature rums and gins which are all free of artificial colors, sweeteners, and flavorings.

Rum has a colorful history on Cape Cod, including the arrest of 10 bootleggers in Dorchester Bay in 1930. One bootlegger escaped and 20 federal boats were dispatched to catch him, which they never did. South Hollow Spirits embraces that adventurous streak, dedicating its work to “all the bootleggers of Cape Cod,” and naming its signature blend, Twenty Boat Amber Rum. Aged in both chardonnay and whiskey barrels, this rum has flavors of vanilla and caramel, with notes of earthy tobacco. South Hollow Spirits also makes a lively Spiced Rum; a clean, woody White Rum; a rum blend aged in red port barrels; and one aged in white port barrels.

In addition to rum, the company makes Dry Line Gin using juniper berries from theEastern Red Cedar Trees that grow adjacent to the North Truro distillery.

During peak season, from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day weekend, visitors can take a tour of the distillery and enjoy spirits tastings.
