“Play ball,” is music to the ears of baseball fans not just here in Eastham, but to many of our guests as well. We don’t have much longer to wait, as the Cape Cod Baseball League kicks off the 2016 season on June 10 with five games.
Notable as the premier amateur league in the United States since 1885, the Cape League is comprised of 10 teams, with locations in Orleans, Harwich, Hyannis, Chatham, Cotuit, Wareham, Yarmouth Port, Falmouth, Brewster and Monument Beach—all within easy driving of Eastham.
The league was once populated by GI’s returning from World Wars I and II, then by local and regional players until 1963 when it became sanctioned by the NCAA.
Over the years, it’s supplied Major League Baseball with many great players, including 292 in 2015. Among the recent top talents is Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum, a Harwich alum.
The Orleans Firebirds and Harwich Mariners are closest to the Inn, but none of the ballparks is that far away. Since games are played at 5:00 p.m. or later, it gives guests a chance to tour around during the day and still have time for a game. And unlike the big leagues, tickets are not only easy to acquire, but reasonably priced too!
While we’re talking baseball, be sure to stop by the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum to check out its Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame exhibit.
Plan to stay with us when you come for a visit. We’ve got a special offer for baseball fans. Book any two nights opening day weekend (June 8 through 12) for $179 per night. Some restrictions apply. Call today at 508-255-0617 for details.
Go team!
