Lighthouses have a special place in the hearts of all Cap Cod residents. They hold a wealth of history (oh, the stories they'd tell if they could talk!) and are steeped in lore. To be able to step inside and explore them is a wonderful treat.
We're fortunate to have five of these historic lights that offer tours close to the Whalewalk Inn here in Eastham. Plan a visit to one or all.
Nauset Light. This is our hometown lighthouse, and was moved from its original plot in Chatham in 1923, replacing the last of a trio of lighthouses known as "Three Sisters." Park at Nauset Light Beach and follow the shady walking trail. 120 Nausett Light Beach, Eastham Open Tours June, September, and October: Sundays at 4:30 p.m. July - August: Sundays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m.
Chatham Lighthouse. One of the prettiest views on the Cape is from here. It's one of the most photographed, and been a beacon here since the mid 1800's, when it was joined by a second light, as noted above. 37 Main Street, Chatham Tours: Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. June 7 and 21 August 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 September 6 and 20 October 4 and 18

Highland Light. Also known as the Cape Cod Lighthouse, this is part of the Cape Cod National Seashore and owned by the National Park Service. It was the Cape's first lighthouse, built in 1797. Over the years it has been rebuilt, re-fitted, and even moved a few times to prevent it from toppling into the ocean! 27 Highland Light Road, North Truro 508-487-1121 Tours: 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Daily, through October 29, 2017 $6/adult, $5/students and seniors
