Things to do on Cape Cod in the Fall

A sandy beach with rolling waves and a wooden fence curving along a dune under a blue sky with fluffy clouds.Need some great ideas for things to do on Cape Cod in the fall? We can help you with that. First and foremost, just because we've said goodbye to the sun-filled days of summer doesn't mean that a beach day is out of the question. September is typically one of the best times for digging your toes in the sand. The kids are back in school, traffic returns to normal, and it's free to park at any of the dozens of beaches that line the shores of Cape Cod. But beaching isn't the only activity that lingers long into October. Fall is the perfect time to look beyond the beach and check out all the cool things happening around this lovely peninsula we call home.

Let's start with all the fabulous fall festivals. Celebrating everything from cranberries to oysters, just about every town on the Cape plans an event to make a fall trip over the bridge a worthwhile venture. Here are just a few of the events coming up over the next several weekends.

Take a spin on one of the scenic bike trails. Perhaps nothing is more exhilarating than taking to two wheels to traverse the diverse terrain that spans the length of Cape Cod. Any of these great bike trails might have you spinning along through the woods, sailing past open ocean, bisecting a cranberry bog, or motoring through a marsh to a beach.

Set sail for a whale watch adventure. Humpback, minkes, and fin whales continue feeding along Stellwagen Bank just off Cape Cod Bay well into October. Depart from Barnstable Harbor or Provincetown on one of these veteran whale watch cruises for an adventure like no other. Experienced naturalists will be your guide on a 3 ½ hour excursion that might find you witnessing whales bubble feeding, breeching, tail waving, or just plain frolicking in the sea.

No matter what floats your boat, a trip to Cape Cod in the fall will not disappoint. Do as much or as little as you like. When you book a room at the Whalewalk Inn in Eastham, MA you'll find yourself in a secluded and romantic destination.
